A 37-year-old Pastor Asonye Isaiah who was arrested for alleged defilement of a 16-year-old minor in Nasarawa State, has pleaded for leniency.
The suspect who is of Rock of Love and Adoration Ground, Old Karshi, Abuja, was nabbed by operatives of the Nigeria police attached to Karshi Divisional Headquarters.
The spokesman of the police Command in Nasarawa State, SP Ramhan Nansel, who confirmed the incident in a statement on Sunday said Isaiah arrest followed a complaint lodged at the Division on 18th April, 2026, at about 2000 hours.
“Preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect deceived the victim’s aunt, claiming her niece was “possessed” and required cleansing at a river”, police said.
Consequently, the alleged Paedophile, instead took the victim to a hotel in New Karshi, where he allegedly had unlawful carnal knowledge of her twice.
The suspect further threatened to kill her if she disclose the incident, before the alleged crime which came to light after the victim’s guardian observed unusual changes in her behaviour and questioned her.
The victim was immediately taken for medical examination, which confirmed penile penetration, according to the police statement that said, “Upon interrogation, the suspect confessed to the offence and pleaded for leniency”.
In the meantime, the Commissioner of Police in Nasarawa State, CP Shetima Jauro Mohammed, has directed that the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Lafia, for comprehensive investigation and prosecution.
He assured that justice will be served and urged members of the public to exercise caution regarding places of worship they attend and individuals who parade themselves as clerics.
