Operatives of the Nigeria Police operatives attached to the Abayi Divisional Headquarters in Abia State has arrested a resident of Nwokocha Street, off Udeabara Road, Aba, Abia State, for brutally flogging and stripping his 13-year-old son, an act captured in a widely circulated viral video.
The suspect was swiftly apprehended following a direct directive from the Abia State Commissioner of Police, CP Wilfred Olutokunbo Afolabi, to track down the offender.
According to the command’s spokesperson, DSP Maureen Chioma Chinaka, the boy’s mother had previously left the marriage, and the suspect has since remarried.
The 13-year-old survivor has received medical attention, is currently in stable condition, and remains under the protective custody of the police.
The case has been officially transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for a discreet and thorough investigation.
CP Afolabi strongly condemned the act as inhumane, barbaric, and a gross violation of child rights.
He reiterated the command’s zero-tolerance policy for child abuse and domestic violence, assuring the public that the suspect will face full prosecution under the law.
The police have also urged citizens to remain vigilant and promptly report all instances of abuse and Gender-Based Violence (GBV) to the nearest police station or via the command’s dedicated emergency lines.
