The Delta State Police Command has taken the Commissioner for Secondary Education, Dr. Kingsley Ashibogwu, and three other suspects into custody regarding the death of Mr. Unity Ekpevbughe Adeda, a Deputy Director in the state’s Ministry of Secondary Education.
This major development brings the total number of individuals currently detained by the police in connection with the ongoing investigation to five.
According to a statement released on Monday night by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, the command is moving aggressively to unravel the circumstances surrounding the tragic incident.
In addition to those already detained, the police have launched an immediate manhunt for two key individuals: Mrs. Clemetine Ufuoma, the Director of Basic and Secondary Education, and Clement Apia, who serves as the commissioner’s official driver.
“The Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command, CP Samuel E. Erale, urges the two suspects, wherever they may be, to make themselves available to the Police without further delay,” according to Edafe.
Authorities emphasized that the presence of these two fleeing suspects is vital to advancing the investigation and uncovering the truth behind the senior official’s death.
Stepping up the pressure, the Delta State Commissioner of Police, CP Samuel E. Erale, has directly urged Mrs.
Ufuoma and Mr. Apia to report themselves to the nearest police station or command headquarters without any further delay.
Assuring the public of a transparent process, CP Erale promised that the investigation would be handled with utmost professionalism and impartiality, declaring firmly that anyone found culpable will face the full weight of the law.
Already, the Command has extended its deepest condolences to the bereaved family of late Mr. Adeda as public scrutiny intensifies over the circumstances leading up to his passing.
