Troops of Sector 2 Operation FANSAN YAMMA have successfully rescued 41 travellers who were abducted by armed bandits in Tsafe Local Government Area, Zamfara State.
The swift and decisive military operation prevented a major tragedy, ensuring the safe recovery of all hostages without any reported injuries, according to a statement by the Nigerian Army authority.
The incident began when a commercial vehicle, journeying from Senegal to Kano State, suffered a sudden mechanical breakdown along a major highway.
Taking advantage of the vulnerable situation, criminal elements targeted the stranded passengers and attempted to herd them into the surrounding wilderness.
Acting swiftly on actionable intelligence regarding the ambush, military forces mobilized immediately to the scene.
Upon arrival, the troops engaged the armed group in a fierce firefight, overwhelming the criminals with superior firepower and forcing them to flee into nearby farmlands.
The rescued group of 41 individuals comprises 24 males, 10 females, and 7 children, all of whom emerged from the ordeal completely unharmed.
Authorities are currently providing the victims with necessary support before they are formally reunited with their families and transit coordinators.
In the wake of the rescue, security forces are maintaining an active and aggressive presence across the axis to secure the route for travelers.
