Edo govt Committee orders sachet alcohol withdrawal after FG ban

Date:

The Edo State Consumer Protection Committee has directed all sellers, dealers, and manufacturers to withdraw and dispose of all sachet gin within the state within seven days or face strict sanctions.

Chairman of the Committee, Iyamu Osaro Culture, issued the directive in a statement on Sunday.

The move follows the nationwide ban on the production, sale, and consumption of sachet gin by the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) due to health risks.

NAFDAC has ordered a total mop-up and strict enforcement of the ban.

”Failure to comply with this directive will attract penalties, seizure, and prosecution in line with relevant laws,” the Committee stated.

It warned that task force teams will commence full enforcement and the evacuation of sachet gin from all markets, shops, motor parks, and other sales points across the 18 local government areas of Edo State immediately upon the expiration of the seven-day grace period.

The Committee reaffirmed its commitment to the health, safety, and well-being of residents, aligning with the SHINE Agenda of Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo.
