A yet-to-be identified police officer of the Nigeria police has been caught choging from bottle of Hennessy while on his job beside a car window with a socialite, raising serious concerns about public safety and the civilian population.
Commenting on the viral footage of the armed officer who was sighted on a road in one of the Nigeria’s cities, Arise television anchor, Reuben Abati, recommended a disciplinary action against him for the alleged misconduct.
Abati who described the incident as unfortunately, called on the Inspector General or Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu to dismiss the officer to serve as a deterrent to others, for posing risk to the safety of unarmed Nigerians who are usually victims of extra-judicial killings.
The former Spokesman of Goodluck Jonathan, former President of Nigeria said, “This is not surprising. The unfortunate thing is that the man (officer) is carrying a gun. Then, they talk about accidental discharge.
“We talk about the misconduct of policemen who will sometimes threaten citizens with firearms when already they are either on drugs or they are drunk.
“Whatever police Command that he belongs to, the uniform should be removed from him because it is dangerous to arm people who are drunk.
“He is drinking from a bottle. And the people who are with him understand the psychology of the rogue policeman. It is an assignment for the IGP, Disu, to identify this policeman and free him from that uniform because he is bad egg.
“They (police authorities)
have a Disciplinary Committee unit in the Nigeria police”, Abati stated in response to the growing outrage.
