Amnesty International (AI) has launched advocacy against the alleged persecution of vulnerable women accused of witchcraft, including those either banished or living in makeshift camps across the North of Ghana.
In the now trending shot documentary that feature the ordeals of some bereaved Ghanaian’ widows punished on its verified social media handles, the human right watchdog, is calling for petitions towards addressing the stereotypes and better lives for women.
Citing data samples obtained from settlements of victims of witchcraft, including Kanbaga, Knani and Kokue, Amnesty International, the group condemned alleged weaponization of cultural beliefs and other harmful traditional cultural practices against poor, older, outspoken widows in that Country.
It also sought a collective action and justice in defence of victims of witchcraft accusation in some parts of Ghana and called for a comprehensive roadmap towards voluntary reintegration and relocation by turning some of the camps.
