TheNewspad recalls that workers in the State Civil Service have being benefitting from the Government increased monthly minimum wage award from N70,000 to N75,000 announced by the Governor during Workers Day celebration.
But their counterparts in the Local Government implementation was unduly delayed by the Government that eventually made a U-turn ahead of the Edo Central Senatorial District and Ovia Federal House of Representatives seat bye-elections billed for Saturday August 16.
The Governor’s directive is contained a circular signed by the Permanent Secretary, Edo State Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Pauline Irusota, Esq. on behalf of the Commissioner in the Ministry, Lucky Eseigbe.

Remarkably, in July, TheNewspad published a report on threats that delayed the implementation of new minimum wage across the Local Government Councils.
Analysts familiar with the unfolding scenerio, blamed largely on the absence of elected Council officials across the Councils that have since been replaced with Caretaker Committees.
The delay in the implementation of wage award, dampened the enthusiasm of most workers at the various Local Governments.
After most of the elected Council Chairmen were exited in power struggle between Okpebholo and the suspended Council officials who came into office during the tenure of Godwin Obaseki-PDP-led administration.
