Abdullahi Ganduje, national chairman of Nigeria’s ruling All Progressives Congress on Saturday dismissed opposition merger talks against the re-election of President Bola Tinubu in 2027 general elections, describing it as a joint venture doomed to fail.
He disclosed this when he led the party’s national Working Committee (NWC) to the residence of former President Muhammadu Buhari in Kaduna State.
The visit comes hours after some leaders of Nigeria’s opposition party and former Governors led by former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar led delegation to Buhari at his Kaduna residence on Friday.
Prominent political figures including former governors Nasir El-Rufai (Kaduna), Aminu Tambuwal (Sokoto), Gabriel Suswam (Benue), Jibrilla Bindow (Adamawa), and Achike Udenwa (Imo), also described the meeting as a Sallah visit.
Addressing journalists, the APC national chairman said, “concerning the group that came to see him (Muhammadu Buhari), that is not a concern to us. History is trying to repeat itself. It’s a joint venture doomed to fail. That will not work.
“It’s a game. We will not reveal our strategy. Politics is full of intrigues and technicalities”, according to Ganduje.
According to the former Governor of Kano State, “We are eyeing other states that will come into our fold. Either the Governors themselves will come, or we go for election and defeat them to increase our tally”, he said, “We are comfortable, but we are not resting. We shall continue”.
