Campus Guard held for indecent assault of minor

A private security guard, Damilola Otegba has been taken into police custody for alleged unlawful activities and indecent assault of a 6-year-old girl inside a private building on Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB) campus.

Police spokesperson for the Nigeria Police Command, CSP Omolola Odutola confirmed the incident on Thursday in a statement
seen by TheNewspad.

The 44-year-old suspect left his security post assigned to a building and took the minor upstairs to his workplace on campus during the incident late night January 14, 2025.

CSP Odutola also alleged that the victim emphasized that despite her resistance to his advances, an unknown female student at FUNAAB, who was unaware of the danger, entered the area and questioned the man about his actions with the girl. This led to the chief security officer of FUNAAB being informed”.

She stated that Sherifat Bakare who resides at Araromi Ajebo road via FMC Abeokuta, reported to the police station said she was away to market when the incident happened at 22:10PM on January 15.

She also stated that Bakare told police that she received a call from her younger brother, Seyi Bakare, whom she had left in charge of her shop on Campus along with her daughter.

She further said Seyi informed Bakare, when she returned from market that while searching for the six-year-old, the girl ran into the shop, visibly frightened. When he asked her what had happened, she revealed that Otegba, had indecently assaulted her.

CSP Odutola explained that the victim was subsequently taken to the school’s Clinic for medical evaluation. Doctors have been contacted, and FUNAAB Harmony Divisional Police officer is awaiting their findings.

“The suspect has been arrested and is currently in custody”, noting that “he will be transferred to the SCID for further investigation following the preliminary inquiry conducted by the crime section of FUNAAB Harmony Divisional headquarters”, according to the police.
