The world of fame often intertwines with relationship scandals especially when it has to do with fidelity, loyalty, and commitment to a partner. Celebrities, both men and women alike frequently find themselves at the forefront of infidelity rumors making rounds online.
The life of a Celebrity entails that one’s personal life is public, attracting considerable attention and interest from fans, especially when it bothers on marriages and romance.
In the Nigerian entertainment industry, one does not know which relationship to stan or which ship to sail because the possibility of hitting rock bottom is never far.
For most Nigerian Celebrities, the reason for a relationship breakdown or scandal often revolves around cheating. Here are seven Nigerian Celebrities who have been involved in high-profile cheating scandals so far in 2024.
Yul Edochie: Yul
Edochie’s cheating with his estranged wife, May, has been one of the most discussed infidelity controversies of recent times, spanning from 2022 to the present. Stories and rumors about their relationship, its impact on them, and the ongoing gossip among netizens have persisted.
In 2022, Yul introduced his second wife, actress Judy Austin, to the public. He also revealed pictures of their child together, a revelation that had been kept secret from May and his family for a substantial six years.
May refused to accept this revelation and has consistently maintained her stance against being marginalized. Public scrutiny of their relationship might have subsided if Yul hadn’t cryptically referenced it on social media multiple times.
In 2023, tragedy struck as they lost their first son, Kambili Edochie. By 2024, May initiated divorce proceedings and made her debut in Nollywood. The scandal involving Yul and May has entangled other celebrities, including the late Junior Pope Odonwodo, who appeared to support May during the ordeal.
Rudeboy:
Rudeboy and his estranged wife, Anita Okoye, publicly announced the end of their marriage on social media in 2022, shortly after it was revealed that Rudeboy was involved with Ifeoma Ivy, a younger social media influencer.
Although both Rudeboy and Anita did not specify the exact reasons for ending their eight-year marriage, which had roots dating back to their time at the University of Abuja, they cited “irreconcilable differences.”
This explanation failed to satisfy fans hungry for details, leading to speculation that their divorce might be related to allegations of infidelity on Paul’s part with Ivy while still married to Anita. Ivy clarified these rumors by stating that she met and began a relationship with Paul when he was single.
Paul married Ivy in 2024, established a fashion business in her name, and got her a push gift barely months into her pregnancy while still co-parenting peacefully with Anita who has moved to the United States with her children. Paul and Anita’s relationship scandal has prompted discussions about whether a woman should support a man during his early struggles or not.
Ayo Makun (AY): Comedian AY’s divorce from his wife Mabel Makun is one of the biggest shocks to hit netizens in 2024. The couple always seemed like a perfect duo.
Both Mabel and AY have taken to their individual social media handles to mourn the end of their 20-year-old friendship and almost 15-year-old marriage, emphasizing that to maintain the mental health of their daughters they’d prefer to desist from pointing accusing fingers. They pleaded with their fans to respect this decision of theirs.
Bolanle Ninalowo: Actor Balanle Ninalowo’s marriage with Bunmi was the “God when” of so many Nigerian singles for so many years until 2023 when the centre could no longer hold in their almost 20-year-old marriage.
Bolanle announced the end of their marriage in an Instagram post in September 2023.
Shortly afterward, Nino was speculated by netizens to be in a relationship with female colleague Damilola Adegbite, a development which was suspected to be an act of pettiness to spite Bunmi.
Stories flying around social media also suggest that Ninalowo is not yet over his ex-wife Bunmi as they have managed to have a back-and-forth relationship while Damilola is still in the picture.
Damilola on the other hand, was also suspected to have been involved with another billionaire and only flowed with Nino for the sake of it, however, the actress seemed to have developed feelings for Nino, fans have suggested.
Davido: The Afrobeat sensation seems to be in the spotlight for his numerous cheating escapades and drama between his wife and about four baby mamas who have not entirely cohabited over the years.
In April 2024, a leaked video online showed Davido being involved with a curvy white lady while being reportedly married to Chioma. It however became “wars of the side chicks” as Anita Brown blew hot over the video slamming Davido for not being respectable enough.
Few weeks before Davido’s lavish wedding with Chioma Rowland, Davido’s first baby mama, Sophia Momodu accused the singer of not taking full responsibility for his daughter, she reportedly denied him child custody and revealed that Davido only visits the house when he wants to get intimate with her, his relationship with Chioma notwithstanding.
Kiss Daniel:
Controversial bloggers have it that Kiss Daniel’s marriage is at the brink of crashing due to the singer’s romantic affairs with other women.
Kiss Daniel is reported to have a compartment in his house where he spends time to make music, the area is described as containing everything he needs including a mattress.
Information making rounds has revealed that Kiss Daniel’s wife, Mjay, caught him in action with another woman in his personalized studio area. Kiss is also reported to have gone through close individuals but Mjay would not bulge, she has tolerated him for too long.
Late. Mohbad:
Controversies have trailed everything about Mohbad’s death including the paternity of his son Liam.
In April 2024, a Lagos family court granted a petition for Mohbad’s Baby Mama, Wummi to conduct a DNA test with a well-known laboratory facility in the state and submit it to the court.
Wunmi’s skepticism towards conducting the test and submitting the results, despite being called out by bloggers, has raised suspicions as to whether Liam is Mohbad’s son or not.
Being in the public eye has its downsides, and trying to manage one’s private life away from public scrutiny is one of them. There are, however, a few Celebrity marriages and relationships that have stood the test of time, In the end, what rocks one’s boat may sink another’s.
