Operatives of the Nigeria Police, Lagos State Command have rescued 19-year-old pregnant woman from commiting suicide at Ikorodu Area of the State.
Benjamin Hundeyin, Lagos State police spokesman who confirmed the incident in a statement, alleged that the woman claimed that her reason for her action was because she was jilted by her boyfriend after impregnating her.
Hundeyin recalled that on June 29, 2024, at about 2pm, someone informed police authorities about a young woman who was about to commit suicide by ingesting a harmful chemical known as Sniper.
This was after the man refused to take responsibility for the pregnancy months after she discovered that she was pregnant, to Daily Trust Newspaper, after the woman had fallen victim to a fraudster”.
But the prompt intervention by police personnel to the tip-off, raced to the scene where the girl was located and prevented her from causing harm to herself, according to him, averted the tragedy.
He assured that the pregnant woman have been admitted to a Medical facility for psychological support, while investigation was underway to identify and apprehend all individuals involved in her ordeal.
The statement said, “Upon rescue, the lady, whose identity remains confidential, confessed that she had been driven to the brink of suicide due to severe emotional distress”, Hundeyin.
