Police rescue 2 kidnapped traders, avert N10m ransom payment

Operatives of the Nigeria police Command in Benue State have released two abducted traders by gunmen from captivity in the State where Zaki seventeen suspects were arrested by the police.

A group of bandits armed with dangerous weapons mobilised and invaded a market at Mchia, Logo Local Government Area and kidnapped the traders at about 1800 hours, Police Division at Logo received information about the incident on 23rd November 2023.

The Command’s spokesperson, SP. Catherine Anene in a statement on Sunday, said the police team stormed a hideout where the two victims were rescued at the compound of Zaki Tule Nyam, a tax collector on November 25, 2023.

SP. Catherine Anene said olice swooped on the hoodlums ahead of one week ultimatum issued to their families of the captives to source for the sum of N10,000,000.00. (Thousand Naira) as ransom before their release.

She stated that Commissioner of Police, CP. George Chuku enjoined residence of Logo LGA to cooperate with police teams sent to the area and assist police with useful information, with steadfastness and abiding faith, explaining that further investigation has commenced.

“Upon receipt of this information which was relayed to Police Headquarters Makurdi, the Commissioner of Police, Benue State Command, CP. George Chuku psc(+) ordered the deployment of tactical teams to raid the area and ensure that victims were rescued.

“On 25/11/2023 the police team stormed a hideout where the two victims were rescued at the compound of Zaki Tule Nyam, a tax collector. The victims stated that they were held hostage and there families were given one week to source for 10million naira and pay as ransom before their release before the arrival of the police.

“Consequently, Zaki Nyam and seventeen other suspects were arrested in the Compound for further investigation. Items recovered from them include one dane gun and a machete”, SP. Anene said.
