Operatives of the Nigeria Police Command in Benue State have raided hideouts of Child trafficking syndicate in the State where one of the trafficked victims was rescued by security agents.
The raid was conducted around Internally Displaced Persons Camp at Northbank and other parts of Makurdi, the State Capital, the Command’s spokesperson, SP. Catherine Anene, said in a statement in a statement.
The police alleged that the gang that allegedly paid the sum of N150,000.000 (One Hundred and Fifty Thousand Naira) to the kingpin identified as ‘Friday’, now at large.
The kingpin recruited pregnant girls by Friday, allegedly took possession of the babies when they are delivered and payments have been made to their mothers.
SP. Anene gave the names of the suspects as the kingpin’s wife and accomplice — Stephen Terungwa, Sughter Akegh and Atom Gideon,
Accordingly, the suspects assist in weaning the children before they are trafficked, while their mothers of the babies will smile to the Bank.
SP. Anene, advised members of the public to ensure that there children are in safe places at all times especially during holidays.
The statement partly read, “Surveillance was intensified in these areas and the following persons were arrested in connection with the crime”.
A child that was earlier reported missing by his parents at Daudu police Division was also rescued from the house of the said kingpin.
The statement also revealed that “During the interview session, suspects confessed to have recruited pregnant girls who gave birth and handed over to one Friday, the kingpin who has been on the run.
“They (suspects) were paid one hundred and fifty thousand naira for each pregnancy that was delivered”, according to the statement.
