Police feign ignorance of alleged invasion at Ogun Election tribunal

The Nigeria Police Command in Ogun State has dismissed reports on the alleged invasion of Ogun State governorship election tribunal
sitting at Isabo Abeokuta, the State Capital by suspected hoodlums who also assaulted a former aspirant of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Segun Showunmi.

Recall that political thugs who wielded sticks and canes, descended on the victim shortly after the tribunal began its inaugural sitting in the presence of security agents at the premises of the Court, which is expected to determine among other things, the winner of the March 18 governorship election in the State.

But, the Command’s spokesperson, SP Omolola Odutola in a statement on Monday, said, “information at the disposal of the Ogun State Police Command reports are contrary especially with the presence of Five Divisional Police officers of Ibara, Adatan,Adigbe, on ground, with heavy presence of Policemen drafted by the Area Commander Metro who himself was at the Court location to ensure the Court premises were secured”.

Odutola said, “As reported there was relative peace no case of assault was reported during the Court Sitting neither was the Police aware of anyone assaulted”.

She stated that “in any case of assault the assaulted person can immediately report to the nearest police station and officially complain” to the Command.

She revealed that “Lawyers were all allowed entrance into the premises as no hoodlum, thugs were allowed entrance into the Court hearing”.

TheNewspad reports that access roads leading to the Court premises were condoned off by security personnel, while traffic around the Abeokuta City Centre, convulsed in traffic jam during the Court sitting.
