Gunmen kill 25 Benue residents, police await details

The murder of 25 residents of Imande Mbakange Community and other neighbouring Communities in Mbacher Council Area of Benue State has tightened tension.

Chairman Katsina-Ala Local government, Atera Alfred said the tragedies occurred in the early hours of Saturday.

Atera in a statement signed by his Media aide, Tsar Tartor on Saturday, condemned the attack, which he said claimed over 25 lives and left several persons injured, and several others unaccounted for.

He revealed that houses burnt with properties worth millions, were burnt by the hoodlums.

“I express profound sympathy to families of the victims, promises to continue to support and implement every lawful means in a bid to permanently ending the senseless killings of innocent people of Katsina-Ala Local Government and all her inhabitants”, according to him.

The spokesperson of the Nigeria Police Command in Benue State, SP. Catherine Anene, also confirmed the incident on Saturday.

She said in a terse statement that she yet to be receive details of the attack and the casualty figure.

According to her, “Incident confirmed but details are yet to be received”.

TheNewspad reports that an unspecified number of residents in the affected Communities have fled their homes, while security patrol in the Areas have been intensified.
