7 suspected cultists behind Rivers lawyer’s murder, robbery nabbed

Operatives of the Anti-Kidnapping Unit of the Nigeria Police Command in Rivers have apprehended seven suspected cultists linked to the alleged murder of a lawyer, Bright Owhor

10 days ago in the State.

In July, 2025, the 46-year-old male lawyer of No. 40c market road, Rumuomasi, Port Harcourt, the State Capital, was shot dead by unidentified gunmen who also snatched his vehicle and thereafter made unauthorized cash withdrawals from his Bank Account.

Police Command’s spokesman SP Grace Iringe-Koko said on Monday in a statement that the men of the Anti Kidnapping Unit deployed to investigate and bring the perpetrators to justice, arrested the culprits, following a meticulous intelligence work and technical surveillance.

She identified all the male suspects as Prince Samuel ’30-year-old – armed operative, Daniel Godwin 25-year-old – driver of the vehicle, 24-year-old Henry Peter – arm supplier, who was one that reportedly shot the victim and 30-year-old Godfrey Emmanuel ‘m’ also known as Ibu – the criminal gang leader.

Others are 34-year-old Chukwu Nneji, 27-year-old Justice Dimkpa and 22-year-old Promise Wikere – handler of stolen vehicles, according the police spokesperson.

“During interrogation, police statement said the suspects confessed to being members of the Deygbam Secret Cult Group and admitted to their roles in the murder in addition to the withdrawal of funds from the victim’s bank account, and involvement in recent cult-related violence between BS and G12 Deygbam factions in Diobu, Port Harcourt”.

The statement listed the exhibits recovered from the hoodlums in the covert operations to include one MTN SIM card, four locally made pistols, even rounds of 9mm ammunition, two live cartridges, one Mini Bus and one Toyota Camry vehicle.

In the meantime, the Commissioner of Police Rivers State, CP Olugbenga A. Adepoju, commended the operational prowess of the Operatives, which underscores the commitment of the Command to the safety and security of all residents.

The Commissioner disclosed that these operations reflect a broader strategy to dismantle criminal networks and ensure public confidence in law enforcement agency.
