The Pharmaceutical Council of Nigeria, PSN has sealed 598 medicine vendor premises in Kaduna State for involving in sale of unregulated and potentially harmful medicine and the failure to meet required regulatory standards.
The figure comprises 68 Pharmacies, 456 Patent Medicine stores and 74 unlicensed dispensary premises were sanctioned during the four-day operations.
The routine exercise carriedout by officials of the Council saddled with the responsibility of ensuring that all premises engaging in Pharmaceutical practices are subjected to rigorous regulatory oversight in the State.
Addressing journalists, Dr Suleiman Ciroma, head of Enforcement team, confirmed the development, and lamented that the violations pose serious risk to public health.
“Those who are engaged in these businesses of dispensing, importing and selling of manufactured Pharmaceutical products should abide by the regulations”, according to Ciroma.
He said, “they should ensure that all the guidelines and laws that regulate drugs in Nigeria are properly followed”, while noting that two arrested medicine vendors involved in infractions would be prosecuted in court.
The PSN official also assured that the measure will guarantee safe medicines are dispensed from only licensed and approved medicine vendors.
