4 ‘Kano hunters’ with arms intercepted in Edo weeks after mob attack

The Nigeria Police Command in Edo State has confirmed the arrest of four hunters with firearms from Kano State in Edo State, raising a serious security

concerns in the State.

The incident happened weeks after some travellers said to be hunters, but were branded kidnappers were burnt to death by mob in Uromi, Esan North East Local Government Area of Edo State, leading to the arrest of some suspects.

The Command’s spokesman, CSP Moses Yamu, who confirmed their arrest late Saturday in a statement, stated that the suspects are not herdsmen, but hunters as being purported by some individuals.

He clarified that the quartet, “Yusuf Abdulkarim, Mujaheed Garba, Shittu Idris, and Jamilu Habibu intercepted by a member of Edo Security Network at Americanus hotel on Osemwenkhae street after Big Joe Motors, Ramat Park, Ore-ogbeni Quarters and handed over to the Police”.

He revealed that “three (3) dane guns, six (6) empty cartridges, three (3) half filled cartridges, four (4) cutlasses and two (2) daggers, have been recovered from the suspects who were swiftly taken over by officers from the Ikpoba Hill Police station”.

The statement issued on the mandate of the Commissioner of Police in the State, CP Monday Agbonika, said, “Preliminary investigation reveals that they are hunters, not herdsmen. They were from Doguwa in Kano State heading to Uvbe Community in Orhionmwon LGA of Edo State.

Accordingly, CP Agbonika, discourage residents of the State from circulating wrong information capable of causing unnecessary tension in the State.
