Yiaga Africa, election Monitoring Group, has commended the Independent National Electoral Commission for its timely step taken on the 2027 general elections timetable, stressing however that credibility for the 2027 election is at staked.
But the Civic Advocacy group said on Friday in a statement endorsed by Yiaga Africa, CEMESO, Nigerian Women Trust Fund, The Kukah Centre, IPC, ElectHER, TAF Africa, demanded clarity on set of establish rules surrounding the exercise, including electronic transmission of election results.
Yiaga Africa also demands “full implementation of the Electoral Act, clear rules on electronic transmission of results, transparent logistics and technology deployment in addition to safe environment through security coordination.
Political parties must uphold internal democracy, respect campaign finance rules, and focus on issue-based campaigns, according to the non partisan group.
The Organization also assured that Civil Society Organizations,
CSOs, will monitor each milestone to ensure accountability and protect the will of Nigerians in the election.
“As usual, we are calling on you the media to join us in advocating for an electoral process with integrity and transparency.
“Seeing that INEC has released the 2027 election timetable, we as Civil society groups commend this timely step.
“However we must stress that credibility for the 2027 election depends on: “Full implementation of the Electoral Act.
“Clear rules on electronic transmission of results
“Transparent logistics & technology deployment.
“Safe environment through security coordination”, the statement added.
The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has fixed scheduled the Presidential and National Assembly elections for Saturday, February 20, 2027.
The Commission said in its 2027 general elections timetable released on Friday February 13 2026, said the governorship and State House of Assembly elections will hold on Saturday, March 6, 2027.
According to the schedule, the Presidential and National Assembly elections will be held on Saturday, February 20, 2027. Governorship and State House of Assembly elections will follow two weeks later on Saturday, March 6, 2027.
