The Edo State governor, Mr Godwin Obaseki has revealed how he begged Nigerians not to protest against #EndBad governance and prevent destruction of public assets in the State.
The nationwide protests were held between August 1st and 10th 2024 against the worsening food crisis and the economic policies in response to the removal of fuel subsidy and other economic policies implemented by President Bola Tinubu-led government.
Addressing Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) members and supporters at Oredo Ward 4 Edo State PDP governorship election campaign rally at the weekend, Governor Obaseki stated that protest was a genuine reasons, but he intervened due to possible worries that hoodlums could hijack the peaceful agitation.
He urged the All Progressives Congress (APC) to take responsibility for the throw of hunger hoist glibly on citizens by the ruling party in Nigeria.
“Recently, people said they want to protest. We begged them not to protest, not because their reasons weren’t genuine. We begged them not to destroy public assets in the State, “according to him.
Obaseki said, “the September 21st 2024 governorship election in Edo State is what we should use as our protest tell them that Edo people forbid APC”.
The Governor wondered why APC leaders in the State has chosen to embark on road procession and rely on propaganda rather than convince Edo voters their programmes and how they intend to achieve their objectives.
“What they are planning to do in Edo will be worse than what they are doing now currently in Nigeria. They are campaigning without any positive comment that can impact the people.
“There is no progress in their mouth. Rather, they use abusive terms and tell lies. Our people who want progress are the ones who should govern Edo State”, Obaseki said.
He also enjoined eligible voters who participated in the last Continues Voter Registration (CVR) conducted by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to collect their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) and vote PDP Candidate in the forthcoming election, Mr Asue Ighodalo and his running mate, Mr Osarodion Ogie.
The Governor further tasked leaders of PDP across the State and its supporters to mobilize support for the party in their various localities for the overall victory of the umbrella party.
According to him, “This election is not like my own election because the last election. As at that time I contested things were not as bad as this. Food was not as expensive as this”.
