Two Customs officers shot dead during stop-and-search operation

Two Customs officers Alhaji Kabiru Shehu, an Inspector of Customs and Abdullahi Muhammad, a Customs Assistant II have been shot dead by gunmen in Kebbi State.

The victims were attached to Kebbi Area Command, while on a stop-and-search operation at about 0128 hours on Thursday.

Mubarak Mustapha disclosed this in a statement.

He said suspected bandits in an ash-coloured Toyota Corolla vehicle, engaged the officers on Bunza – Dakingari – Koko road with heavy gunfire.

The officers have since been laid to rest according to Islamic rites, according to the statement, which prayed for the repose of the deceased.

Mustapha said, “The Command has launched a manhunt for the suspects with the view to arrest and prosecute them”.

“The Customs Area Area Controller (CAC) Comptroller Ben Oramalugo, commiserates with the families on the tragic incident and prays that God Almighty grants them the fortitude to bear the loss.

“The CAC also urge members of the public to volunteer information about the movement of suspected smugglers and other criminals. He assured such informants of strict confidentiality”, Mustapha assured.
