Tragedy in Kogi: Co-wife arrested for fatal stabbing over old quarrel

Date:

A middle-aged woman, Khadijat, has been arrested by police operatives in Kogi State for the alleged murder of her co-wife, Ramatu, following a violent confrontation in the Ijoka community of Olamaboro Local Government Area.

The tragic incident unfolded on Thursday, August 13, 2026, while the family was harvesting palm kernels in a remote part of the bush.

An Ankpa Radio-Television presenter later confirmed the arrest in a broadcasted update on Sunday, August 23.

According to the husband, Jibrin, the fatal attack began when Ramatu raised an alarm and cried for help, drawing the attention of family members working nearby.

As relatives rushed toward the cries, Khadijat allegedly intercepted them, warning that the area was unsafe in an apparent attempt to delay their intervention.

By the time relatives managed to reach the scene, Khadijat had fled, leaving Ramatu behind with multiple fatal stab wounds.

Jibrin revealed that the two women had been locked in a bitter disagreement several weeks prior to the attack, according to the report by LindaIkeji.

Although the family initially dismissed the dispute as a minor domestic disagreement, they failed to realize that lingering resentment was quietly festering. Investigators and family members now believe that this unresolved grudge served as the primary catalyst for the brutal confrontation.
