Suspected thugs have allegedly vandalized the campaign office of Hon. Frank Uyi Omosigho, the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate for the Oredo Federal Constituency in Benin City, Edo State.
The incident reportedly took place late Tuesday night at around 10 p.m., leaving behind a trail of destroyed banners, posters, and other campaign materials.
Omosigho, who currently represents Oredo East in the Edo State House of Assembly, said he rushed to the scene on Stadium Road around 11 p.m. after receiving distress calls from local residents.
Upon arrival, he met concerned youths who recounted how unknown individuals stormed the premises to wreck the office.
Condemning the act, the lawmaker appealed to young people to reject being used as tools for political violence.
”My appeal to youths is not to allow politicians to use them to perpetrate violence or other illegal acts. Anyone caught violating the law will face the consequences,”
He stated. “Campaign materials are simply meant to introduce candidates to the electorate.
“Voters have the right to make their choices independently”, according to him.
Beyond his campaign office, Omosigho disclosed that his billboards and posters have been systematically pulled down across multiple locations in Oredo, including Oguola, Oliha, Five Junction, and Ekenwan Road.
He confirmed that formal complaints have been lodged at the Aideyan Police Station, while the State Commissioner of Police and the Department of State Services (DSS) have also been put on notice.
Despite the setback, the NDC Candidate urged his supporters and party members to remain calm, law-abiding, and focused on peaceful campaigning, insisting that the party will not be intimidated.
Contacted for comments regarding the incident, the Edo State Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Eno Ikoedem, was unreachable as of the time of filing this report.
