Political thugs clashed with private security Guards at venue of Edo State governorship election petition tribunal on Thursday in Benin City, the State Capital.
The incident comes barely 48 hours after the shooting around the venue by armed political thugs in the same locality, testing Security personnel’ might.
The clash occured outside the courtroom when the court sitting had commenced, TheNewspad reports, amid cheers and banters by party supporters.
The clash occured in the presence of armed policemen attached to one of the entrance gates at the courtroom, standing at ease.
The clash was triggered by an argument between one the Guards who escorted a Candidate of one of the petitioners in the September 21st Edo State governorship election case in court.
However, some of the operatives along with a man in yellow vest, believed to be supporters of one of Candidates in the election, attempted to break the fight that lasted for few minutes.
Stakeholders, including lawyers and litigants handling other cases at the Edo State High court complex are apprehensive over the contrived violence aided by maverick politicians using meddlesome interlopers to cause violence in the State.
Meanwhile, a top official of Peoples Democratic Party, has congratulated leaders and supporters of the party for the restraint and maturity displayed during the alleged invasion and forceful retrieval of PDP secretariat at 59 Airport road by the leaders of the All Progressives Congress led by its chairman, Emperor Jarret Tenebe, on Thursday afternoon.
The official wrote, “We should be congratulating PDP and its supporters for thè restraint and maturity displayed. I’m very proud and honoured to be part of such noble men, women and youth. Edo will rise again!”.
