Three in Abia police net for ‘murder, gun running’

Operatives of the Nigeria Police Command in Abia State at the weekend arrested three suspects for alleged murder and gunrunners in the State.

The criminal suspects who are cooling their feet in police custody, according the Command’s spokesperson, DSP Maureen Chinaka, who identified the male suspects as Kalu Ugwa Ogbonnaya, male, 54, Agu Ugochukwu, male, 39, and 43-year-old Ukandu Leach, male.

Chinaka said in a statement that Ogbonnaya, was apprehended in connection with a cargo consignment with Waybill No: HN-INT-7320Do-FDY-U by detectives from the Central Police Station, Umuahia, on October 17, 2025 leveraging on actionable intelligence.

The statement revealed that the consignment contained twenty six (26) live cartridge and another carton containing a pump action gun with Breech No: MY1183234.

Further search of the consignment led to the recovery of one Mossberg 930 pump action with Breech No: AFO44698 and fifty (50) rounds of live cartridges, all of which were to be received by the suspect, according to the police.

Police investigation said during interrogation, the consignment contained twenty six (26) live cartridge and another carton containing a pump action gun with Breech No: MY1183234.

The statement said further search of the consignment led to the recovery of one Mossberg 930 pump action with Breech No: AFO44698 and fifty (50) rounds of live cartridges, all of which were to be received by the suspect.

The suspect, according to police investigation, confessed that the consignment was to be received from him by 39-year-old Agu Ugochukwu who has also been apprehended.

The statement also revealed that Agu told police investors that was to receive the consignment on behalf of another suspect residing in the United States of America.
