‘Table water’ producers declare indefinite strike over N1000 levy

The leadership of Association Of Table Water Producers, Edo State Chapter has declared an indefinite strike over N1000 (One Thousand Naira) daily levy by the government.

The group also directed its member for withdrawal of services during a meeting on Thursday last week in Benin City, the State Capital, effective Monday January 15, 2024, in protest against the levy.

The withdrawal of services is in protest against alleged imposition of (One Thousand Naira) daily on every water distribution vehicle tagged ‘haulage fee’, according to the Association, which said the move amount to multiple taxation.

TheNewspad reports that last week Thursday’s announcement has triggered a spike in the prices of packaged water among Wholesalers and Retail shop owners in Benin Metropolis, depending on the sizes.

The government may meet with Union leaders of Group soon to towards resolving the imbroglio.
