‘Shaibu’s impeachment notice will be published’

Edo State House of Assembly is set to publish the impeachment notice to the deputy governor of the State, Philip Shaibu on national newspapers. as a substituted means.

This followed the alleged by Shaibu to acknowledge the impeachment notice sent to him from the court through DHL courier service.

The Speaker of the Assembly, Mr Blessing Agbebaku disclosed this during Monday plenary where he also revealed futile efforts made to reach the deputy Governor in the past.

Last week Wednesday, the Assembly commencement of the impeachment proceedings against the embattled deputy Governor, alleging among others things, perjury, abuse of office and for revealing official secrets of government.

The Majority leader of the State House of Assembly and member representing Ovia North East 1, Charity Aiguobarueghian, recalled a petition against the deputy governor which dated March 5, 2024 was endorsed by 21 out of the 24 lawmakers.

The Majority leader maintained that the number of lawmakers that signed the petition have met the required two – thirds as stipulated in the Constitution.

The rivalry between Shaibu and Governor Godwin Obaseki assumed a frightening dimension after the later approached a federal High Court in Abuja to challenge the outcome of Edo State Peoples Democratic party primaries where Dr Asue Ighodalo emerged as the Candidate. This was after Shaibu
declared himself winner of a parallel primary election which he claimed to have won.
