School teacher sent to prison over toddler assault

A Magistrate Court 1, Ogba in Lagos State has remanded a private school teacher, Stella Nwadigo, at the Kirikiri Correctional facility for

physically assaulting a three-year-old pupil of Christ-Mitots School, Isawo road, Ikorodu, Lagos State.

45-year-old accused was arrested on Wednesday and arraigned in court on Thursday by the Nigeria police, Lagos State Command after she was caught in a disturbing viral video repeatedly hitting the pupil on Wednesday.

The incident sparked outrage on social Media space, prompting police authorities State government to intervene in the reported case of assault melted to a three-year-old pupil.

Spokesman for the Nigeria Police Command in Lagos State, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin confirmed this on his verified social Media handle on Thursday.

In a statement, CSP Hundeyin said the accused was remanded at the Kirikiri Correctional facility ahead of continuation of hearing of the suit on February 18, 2025.

He said the victim of assault had been admitted to a medical facility for adequate medical attention.

“Following receipt of the video, the Family Support Unit (FSU) of Ikorodu Police Division promptly arrested the suspect on Wednesday, January 8, 2025 and transferred her to the Gender Unit of the Command Headquarters same day after preliminary investigations”, he said.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CP Olanrewaju Ishola, commended Nigerians for promptly alerting the police to the situation.

He assures Nigerians of the ever-readiness of the Command to respond quickly and appropriately to situations towards ensuring the safety and security of resident and visitors to Lagos State.
