Sanusi hosts legal team over police summon

The 16th Emir of Kano, Mohammadu Sanusi II, has hosted his legal team led by Abubakar Mahmoud, ahead of his appearance at the police Force Headquarters in FCT, Abuja by 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, April 8, 2025 over alleged Durbar ban violation during the last Sallah event in the State.

An official letter of his invitation for questioning dated April 4, 2025, signed by CP Olajide Rufus Ibitoye at the instance of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun for interrogation for allegedly flouting restriction on Durbar activities during the Sallah period due to safety concerns by security agencies.

Reports said prior to Sanusi’s invitation, 20-year-old man, Usman Sagiru, from Sharifai Quarters, was arrested for allegedly involved in the killing and assault on vigilante members within the Emir’s entourage after Eid prayers on March 30.

The former Central Bank of Nigeria Governor had also brushed aside the security advice when he led Durbar processions and paid a visit to the Kano Government House in Kano, which was seen as a deviation against the traditional horse ride during Durbar.
