The Nigeria Police Command in Kwara State has confirmed 103 deaths in a boat accident that occurred on Monday June 12, 2023 at Egbu village, Patigi Local government Area of Kwara State.
The Command’s spokesman, Okasanmi Ajayi on Tuesday said this in a terse statement on the ill-fated boat which was overpowered by tidal waves, capsize, leading to the deaths.
He assured that names of survivors would made public when it is available.

Earlier, the governor of Kwara State, Mr AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, sent his condolences to the people of Patigi on the tragedy, which left some persons unaccounted for.
Mr Rafiu Ajakaye, the Chief Press Secretary to Governor AbdulRazaq said, “The Governor is sad to receive reports of the boat accident involving several people, particularly residents of Ebu, Dzakan, Kpada, Kuchalu, and Sampi — all in Patigi.
“The Governor sends his heartfelt condolences to the people of these communities and those from other States.
“He prays to Almighty Allah to repose the souls of the victims. The Governor, meanwhile, continues to monitor the rescue efforts already mounted since Monday night in search of possible survivors”, the Governor said.
He also commended the alertness of the Etsu Patigi His Royal Highness Alhaji Ibrahim Umar Bologi II and other Local government Authorities for the efforts to save as many people as possible who may have survived the mishap”.
TheNewspad reports that victims, including a father with his four children, lost their lives, in addition to other victims, were returning from a marriage Ceremony at neighbouring Egboti village in Niger State when the accident happened.
