Police probe killing by Zamfara mob over alleged witchcraft

Police authorities have ordered probe into the alleged murder of Zamfara resident who was clubbed to death by suspected mob on suspicion of witchcraft.

It was gathered that the attack that led to Sharahu Haruna’s death occurred at the weekend in Gidan Katakare, Zamfara State, North Eastern part of Nigeria.

A security expert,
Zagazola Makama said the tragedy struck on April 11, 2025, at around 10:30 p.m when members of the Community mobilized and stormed Lawali’s house after accusations of possessing Nafisa Masa’udu with witchcraft.

It was further leant that during the altercation that led to a tussle, a Dane gun was discharged, accidentally killing Sharahu Haruna.

Police personnel attached to Birnin Magaji Division responded to the scene, where the body was photographed the scene and the corpse before the deceased was released to the family for burial in accordance with Islamic rites.

A DPO at the Birnin Magaji Police Division, promptly alerted the Nigeria Police Command in Zamfara, which has ordered probe into the killing by miscreants.

A top police officer at the police Command told Zagazola Makama that “Authorities have initiated an investigation into the incident, and the community’s role in the attack is being examined”.
