The effort is seen as a mark of solidarity by the police during the protest, meant to draw the attention of the ruling class to the plights of hungry Nigerians.

The Commissioner of Police in Edo State Command, CP Foluso Adegboye made the pledge yesterday at the King square in Oredo Local Government Area of the State.

He commended the protesters who converged at the King square in Oredo Local Government Area of the State and charged them to be a shiny example.

CP Adegboye said, “I have being begging you people to set a standard for peaceful protests. And from what I have seen here, I want to say thank you”.

“I remain your Commissioner of Police, your friend in this peaceful protest so that the nation can become better. I want to appeal to you that we should continue in this tempo.

“Police are with you, see around and protect you. It’s your fundamental human right to show your grievances and we are ready.

“We are with you. We will provide refreshment. We will provide water, biscuits. We are going to provide snacks. Please remain peaceful”, CP Adegboye said.

Responding, the Coordinator of Edo Civil Society Organizations, Leftist Umweni Aliyu Osarenogowu, stated that protest must be well articulated and followed with precision.

He said, “Our CP has come to show us solidarity, so let us be calm. Police are our friends, brothers and sisters”.

“The truth is that police personnel are also hungry. The same police find it difficult to buy essential commodities at our markets”, Leftist Umweni stressed.

TheNewspad reports that there was also a moment when the protesters had to endure slump, following the collapse of the podium.

But, soon after the shivers were shrugged off, the dance to music tunes continued as the protesters one after the other reflected on hardship Nigerians have being going through.

The 10-day protest is hinged on the economic policies of President Bola Tinubu that pushed inflation and cost of essential commodities particularly foodstuff to the rooftop due to the removal of petrol subsidy by the federal government last year.
