The Nigeria police Command attached to the Rapid Response Squad, Awkuzu, Unit in Anambra State has gunned down two suspected kidnappers in a fierce shootout.
In a statement, the command’s spokesman, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, said the suspects were neutralized in the early hours of Wednesday, August 19, 2026, through an intelligence-led operation.
Acting on credible information that suspected armed robbers and kidnappers had been sighted along Eziowelle Road, the squad mobilized to the area. Upon sighting the police team, the suspects opened fire, leading to an exchange of gunfire.
During the encounter, two of the suspects sustained fatal gunshot injuries, while other gang members fled with varying degrees of gunshot wounds.
Operatives recovered one AK-47 rifle with a magazine containing four live rounds of ammunition, one pump-action gun, and five live cartridges from the scene.
Reacting to the development, the State Commissioner of Police, CP Nnanna Oji Ama, stated that the command remains resolute in its determination to sustain intelligence-led operations to dismantle criminal networks and ensure safety across the state.
The command has commenced further investigations and intensified efforts to track down the fleeing gang members. Further developments will be communicated accordingly.
