The Edo State Police Command has arrested a 49-year-old man over the alleged murder of his 15-year-old son and the secret burial of the corpse within their family compound at Uhe Community, Igueben Local Government Area of the State.
According to a statement issued on Sunday by the Edo State Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Eno Ikoedem, the suspect was arrested on December 6, 2025, following credible information received by the police, which prompted operatives led by the Divisional Police Officer to visit the scene, where the allegation was confirmed.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect allegedly assaulted his son with a stick on Friday, December 5, 2025, at about 7:00 p.m., an act that reportedly led to the teenager’s death.
The police stated that the suspect subsequently dug a shallow grave within the family compound and secretly buried the corpse.
Further findings indicated that the 82-year-old mother of the deceased who is also the suspect’s mother, living in the same house, provided useful information that aided police investigation.
Following due administrative procedures, the grave was exhumed by the police, photographs were taken for documentation, and the stick allegedly used in committing the offence was recovered as an exhibit.
The suspect is currently in police custody while investigation continues.
Confirming the development, the Commissioner of Police in Edo State, CP Monday Agbonika, fdc, directed that the case be transferred to the Homicide Section of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for thorough investigation and prosecution.
The police commissioner also warned against all forms of violence and urged residents of the state to promptly report suspicious activities to the nearest police station.
