PDP vows to sack Edo lawmaker over defection

Leaders of Peoples Democratic Party in Uhunmwode Local Government Area of Edo State have vowed to explore instruments to unseat the Edo State House of Assembly member, representing Uhunmwode Constituency, Kaycee Osamwonyi.

The lawmaker recently dumped PDP for the ruling All Progressives Congress, weeks after three other Assembly members elected on PDP platform left the party and joined APC to form a majority in the State House of Assembly, citing division in his former party.

Richard Edebiri, a former Commissioner for Agriculture and a former Special Adviser to Governor Godwin Obaseki, Pedro Egharevba and Dr Nosakhare Ehigie, explained that consultation is ongoing with with the PDP legal team to declare Kaycee’s Osamwonyi’s seat in the House of Assembly is declared vacant.

The leaders arrived at the resolution after an extensive deliberation on the issue at an enlarged meeting of PDP leaders from Uhunmwode Local Government Area on Saturday in Benin City where they denied any rift in the party and distanced themselves from Osamwonyi’s decision.

The resolutions which were adopted by the party leaders and other attendees from the 10 Wards in Uhunmwode LGA, include disassociation from Kaycee Osamwonyi’s defection, which they described as a betrayal of the trust reposed in him by the PDP Uhunmwode people.

The leaders clarified that the lawmaker defected alone, noting that the party structure at the various Wards and the LGA levels, remain strong, united and unshaken.

Addressing leaders of the party, Edo South PDP Senatorial District Leader, Etose Dickson Imasogie, insisted that there is no division in the PDP.

He recalled that Kaycee asked for nomination in APC, they denied him, but PDP accommodated and gave him the ticket to run for the election which he won”.

Imasogie said, “he (Kaycee) gave a flimsy excuse that he is leaving us because we are divided. I do not know where he got that information from. There is no party that does not have a rift.

Also speaker, Timothy Osadolor, PDP deputy National Youth Leader, described the development as one of the desperate tactics deployed by the ruling party in the State in corrupting elected officials and luring them into its fold.

“In Edo State, there is only one Caretaker Committee. Uhunmwode LGA where he comes from, there is only one party Secretariat.

“There is no crisis in the PDP, which has not given any consent to any of its member to trade their tickets for monetary gain or economic gain whatsoever”, he said.
