14-year-old girl identified as Miss Nancy Peter, accused of stealing has been flogged to death with horse whip known as koboko by Pastor Samson Roman Dago, after a violent assault by her mother, Mrs Agnes Peter during a deliverance session in Cross River State.
The spokesman of the Nigeria police Command in the State, Eitokpah Sunday, said on Monday in a statement that the Command has commenced a thorough investigation to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident.
He said the victim of Gender Based Violence, GBV, reportedly became unconscious thereafter and was rushed to a medical facility in Wula Community for treatment, where she was later confirmed dead by medical personnel in the State.
Eitokpa, explained that preliminary findings by the police revealed that the 43-year-old Cleric “allegedly subjected the minor to corporal punishment using a cane (koboko)”, having suffered a violent assault in the hands of her 45-year-old mother.
The police spokesman also said investigation will determine the extent of involvement of all persons connected to the case. Appropriate legal action will be taken based on the outcome of the investigation.
The statement clarified that the Command is also aware of reports and social media claims alleging that the minor was sexually assaulted.
“At this stage, investigations have not established any evidence to substantiate such claims. Relevant medical examinations and investigative procedures are ongoing to ascertain the facts”, according to the police.
