Public fury has erupted across social media following the sentencing of Michael Obakpororo Osughwu, driver of former Deputy Senate President Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, to two years in prison for missing vehicle
The legal outcome triggered by the former lawmaker’s own formal petition over an alleged missing accidented campaign bus, linked to his the longtime driver.
A prominent social media commentator is heavily criticizing Senator Omo-Agege over this criminal conviction, arguing that pursuing legal action and pressing charges against a loyal employee.
He alleged that the convict, served him meritoriously for years—including taking on high-risk driving duties day and night during past governorship campaigns—reflects a severe lack of compassion and humanity.
The legal proceedings began after Senator Omo-Agege filed a formal petition, leading to Osughwu’s arraignment and subsequent sentencing in a Delta State High Court over the alleged branded campaign bus.
In a public Facebook post, Ossai Ovie Success condemned the former lawmaker, arguing that pursuing legal action against a loyal employee who served him for years—including taking on high-risk driving duties day and night during past governorship campaigns—reflects a severe lack of compassion.
According to Ossai, despite repeated appeals for mercy from supporters and associates, the legal battle dragged on for roughly two years before culminating in a prison sentence that has severely disrupted the driver’s livelihood and ability to provide for his family.
“Osughwu alleged that the convict, “took enormous risks driving both day and night throughout the governorship campaign, over the alleged disappearance of an accidented scrab campaign bus, is a deeply saddening development”.
The critic contrasted Omo-Agege’s actions with other political figures who reward staff loyalty, citing an example of a Senior Special Assistant to the State Governor who recently built and donated a house to a dedicated driver.
“Beyond the prison sentence itself, the long legal battle has undoubtedly taken a significant toll on the young man’s life, livelihood, and ability to support his family.
“The young man (Michael served Senator Omo-Agege faithfully for many years. Yet, despite appeals for mercy, the case lingered in court for about two years before ending in his conviction.
“What makes this even more painful is the contrast with other leaders who have chosen to reward loyalty.
The post concluded by emphasizing that true leadership is defined by empathy, forgiveness, and the fair treatment of those who stand by leaders through difficult political seasons.
“Leadership is measured not only by power and authority but also by compassion, forgiveness, and how we treat those who have stood by us through the years”, according to Ossai, “today is indeed a sad day for humanity”.
