The Senator representing Edo North Senatorial District, Senator Adams Oshiomhole has showcased rot and highlighted flaws in some public schools where he claimed that teaching and learning were conducted under the shadow of reptiles in Edo State.
After his acclaimed peer-review assessment on state-of-public schools under Governor Godwin Obaseki’s government, Senator Oshiomhole called on the federal government and the World Bank to probe into billions of tax-payers money budgetary allocations to Basic Education by the government in a video.
The two term former Governor who conducted a mock tutorial alongside questions and answers sessions with his students in a Classroom surrounded by bushes, said, Education remains the potent weapon that can be used to break the glass ceiling.
Investment into Education sector in the State ought to reflect the reality of what is on ground, according to the former national Chairman of APC who alleged that reptiles pose serve threat to teaching and learning, especially during wet season in the Secondary school, whose name or location was not mentioned in the viral video.
The former Labour Leader lamented that Children who are taught in non-conducive environment and unqualified teachers can hardly excel in life academically unlike privileged Children elsewhere because underprivileged children taught in ill-equipped schools, find it difficult to gain access to Secondary school Education due to poor academic foundation.
Oshiomhole who was clad in a face cap atop a brown khaki colour trouser and short, picked holes in Edo Basic Education Sector Transformation (EdoBEST) programme, was applauded by some Nigerians, including armed security personnel in the video.
Oshiomhole also said, “Now, you can see that Obaseki’s best is not even good enough in terms of infrastructure for rabbits, cockroaches and reptiles. May that not be the portion of our great people after September 21st”.
“Do you know something? The money he (Obaseki) has taken from the World Bank in the name of EdoBEST, he must vomit it. The World Bank will have to come here from Washington and show us if that is what they do in Nigeria. If you carry corruption from to international corruption Capital, there are consequences.
“These people (foreign partners) in their books, they will say we have led Edo State government and supported their Basic Education and so-on-and so forth.
“We (World Bank) believe that it’s the basic right of a child to have a good school. They will speak all the grammar and the road to Edo State is paved with corruption. And young people are not being educated.
Nigerians in social Media community are divided over the short documentary authored by Oshiomhole has been commended for sharing his uneasiness online.
But, other social Media bees, criticized him for allegedly been hypocritical like a proverbial weeping Prophet in the Wilderness in his deductions about state of schools that have been shut down due to the 3rd term holiday across the State, ahead of First term resumption in September 2024.
TheNewspad had reported how Oshiomhole, the former Governor of the State recently led the Edo State All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship campaign on some deplorable roads in Benin Metropolis, appealing to voters to vote the Candidate of his party, Senator Monday Okpebholo.
Oshiomhole came under fire few days ago for throwing shades at State Governor’s wife, Mrs Betsy Obaseki after calling her a baren woman.
This was after the First Lady, was caught in a video, urging voters not to vote Candidates who do not have wife at the forthcoming poll at PDP rally.
