Onwenu: Anambra govt yet-to send condolence after 48 hours

The Anambra State Government is yet-to send a condolence message to the family of late music icon, Onyeka Onwenu who died after performing at her 80th birthday party of Dame Stella Okoli,

72-year-old actress died at Reddigton hospital on Victoria Island, Lagos State where she was receiving Medical attention after the Birthday anniversary, which took place at Okoli’s Ikoyi home.

TheNewspad learned that after Onwenu’s
demise, prominent Nigerians, including President Bola Tinubu, former Governor of Anambra State, Mr Peter Obi, and Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo State had condoled with the family of Septuagenarian who was an indigene of Anambra State. But Governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo as at the time of filing this report.

Onwenu’s tragedy was reported on Wednesday July 31st 2024, while Governor Soludo who marked his 64th Birthday anniversary, three days ago, was celebrating the Birthday anniversary of his wife, Anambra First Lady.

Sources close to Anambra State Government said the Couple, is yet-to abate, but hinted that the Governor has instructed his Media handlers to issue a statement in honour of the decease.

Onwenu, is the third prominent Anambra indigene who died after the demise of Senator Ifeanyi Ubah and Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, President General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide in a succession since the past one week.

52-year-old Ubah represented Anambra South District, died in London last week Saturday after a brief illness, while 82 year-old Iwuanyanwu died at Abuja Hospital last week Wednesday arising from health complication, according to the family.

Soludo said: “I marked my 64th birthday with a heavy heart but with the deepest gratitude to God almighty.

“While I am grateful for another year of life, I am saddened by the recent passing of two of Ndigbo’s finest sons – Chief Dr. Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu (Ahaejiagamba Ndigbo) and Senator Ifeanyi Ubah (Ebubechukwu-uzo Nnewi).

“As I celebrate, I remember their legacy and selfless service to humanity.

“The day began with a solemn mass, a time for both reflection and celebration. It was a poignant reminder of the ephemerality of life and the importance of cherishing every moment we have.

“Thank you for your kind wishes, and may God bless our beloved state and nation”, he said.

Onwenu was the ace singer whose soulful and powerful lyrics often conveyed hope and positivity.
