Government Monday Okpebholo of Edo State has laid to rest the lingering leadership crisis in Ambrose Alli University, AAU, Ekpoma in Edo State, after months of tensed politicking and horse-trading amongst the various contenders for the coveted job.
This followed the appointment of Professor (Mrs.) Eunice Eboserehimen Omonzejie as the new substantive Vice Chancellor of the state-owned University by the Governor and the Visitor to the institution.
Secretary to the State Government, Umar Musa Ikhilor confirmed the appointment of Professor Omonzejie in a statement Monday September 22nd 2025.
The distinguished scholar of French and Francophone African Literatures, was chosen amongst three (03) names, which were not mentioned, recommended to the Governor by the Governing Council of the University, according to the statement.
The a long-serving academic in the Department of Modern Languages at the University, is a prolific researcher and editor, with contributions to African and Francophone literary studies, gender studies, and cultural studies.
The State government congratulated Professor (Mrs) Omonzejie on her appointment and urges her to bring her wealth of experience and leadership skills to bear in advancing the institution’s mandate of producing world-class graduates and driving research and innovation.
Abridged version of Professor (Mrs) Omonzejie’s resume, indicates that She has served as the President of the Ambrose Alli University Chapter of the National Association of Women Academics (NAWACS), where she has championed mentoring, research, and advocacy for female academics and students.
In addition, Professor (Mrs) Omonzejie has co-edited several seminal works including French Language in Nigeria: Essays in Honour of UFTAN Pacesetters and Language Matters in Contemporary West Africa, and is the author of Women Novelists in Francophone Black Africa: Views, Reviews and Interviews.
