A suspected kidnapping kingpin has been neutralized in Orile Ilugun Forest axis on the Abeokuta–Ibadan Expressway, Ogun State by operatives of the Nigeria police Command in the State.
The Command’s spokesman, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi said the criminal suspect meant his waterloo in the hands of Anti-Kidnapping Unit of the police Command.
He said the operatives leveraging on an intelligence-led operation at a criminal hideout located within the area and launched a brutal attack on them.
The operation, according to him, led to the recovery of one AK-47 rifle loaded with twenty rounds of 5.6mm ammunition, the sum of Two Million Naira (₦2,000,000), and two mobile phones.
The operatives also freed a hostage who was abducted on the 14th of May 2026 at Nufats Fuel Station on the Abeokuta–Ibadan Expressway, Odeda Area of Ogun State.
The hostage regained freedom unharmed on the 18th of May 2026 at about 8:30 p.m. after being released by the abductors, according to the police statement.
Following the hostage release, men of the Anti-Kidnapping Squad intensified intelligence-driven efforts to apprehend members of the criminal gang responsible for the abduction.
Similarly, on the 19th of May 2026 at about 6:00 a.m., operatives, acting on credible intelligence, stormed the kidnappers’ hideout within the Orile Ilugun Forest axis along the Abeokuta–Ibadan Expressway.
“On sighting the Police operatives, the kidnappers opened fire, resulting in a fierce gun duel.
“The operatives responded with superior tactical firepower, leading to the neutralization of the gang’s kingpin, while other members of the syndicate fled into the forest with varying degrees of gunshot injuries, police said.
It also discussed that one AK-47 rifle loaded with twenty rounds of 5.6mm ammunition, the sum of Two Million Naira (₦2,000,000), and two mobile phones were recovered at the scene.
