Oba of Benin troops defeat warriors in ‘mock battle’

Omo N’ Oba N’ Edo, Uku Akpolokpolo, Ewuare II, CFR, Oba of Benin loyal troops have defeated their enemies who attempted to launch attack against Benin Kingdom, reenacting the historic mock battle between Esigie of blessed memory and Uzama Chiefs in Benin.

Oba Ewuare II Queens (Iloi) had bid farewell at the point of departure from the Benin Royal court to Ughaerhoba — venue for the mock battle, fought with bow-and-arrow along with shields during Ugie-iron traditional rites at 2024 Igue festival, Oba Palace in Benin City.

Chief Bright Osaro Edogun, the Edogun of Benin led the Oba Royal troops who fought against Uzama Chiefs, led by Chief Edionwe Oliha, the Oliha of Benin in battle for supremacy.

The battle began the Oba troops inquired from the Uzama Chiefs inquired what their mission was, reinventing mock Royal battle.

After the conquest, the warriors armed their weapons, surrendered to the Oba of Benin and paid tributes to the Benin monarch and thereafter received pieces of kola nuts.

Thereafter, Chief Edogun supported by by Isienmwenro Royal Guards that sting the Oba enemies led by Chief Victor Osa Uzamere, the Obadolaye of Benin and Chief Oliha, took turns to make presentations, amid jubilation by spectators at the event where the Oba offered prayers to God and his ancestors.

Uzama Chiefs who earnestly needed the win to erase their career defeat after the first battle, recorded in 15th Century AD, was lost.
