The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has vowed action against a female Nigerian, Favour Igiebor, accused of tearing a Nigerian passport at the Murtala Mohammed International Airport (MMIA), in Lagos State.
The incident occurred at Lagos Airport on Saturday when Igiebor tore up the passport belonging to her husband who was exercised restrain at international passport upon their arrival from oversea with her family.
Mr Kenneth Udo, the Public Relations Officer of the Nigeria Immigration Service, identified and invited the alleged culprit as Mrs. Favour Igiebor, holding passport number A11990869.
The the Comptroller General of Immigration has directed that Mrs Igiebor be invited for further investigation, accordingly to show cause for her action.
The statement partly reads, “If the allegations are substantiated, the statement notes, that her action would constitute a breach of Section 10(b) of the Immigration Act 2015 (as amended), with corresponding penalties outlined under Section 10(h) of the same Act”.
“Udo reiterates that the Nigeria Immigration Service remains steadfast in its commitment to upholding the provisions of the Immigration Act in the interest of national security, and to preserve the dignity and integrity of the nation’s legal instruments”.
