Ndume demands withdrawal of police escorts to politicians wives, children

Date:

The Senator representing Borno South Senatorial District, Senator Ali Ndume has demanded the withdrawal of police personnel either guarding or serving as escorts to high Nigerian politicians wives and Children, including lawmakers wives and their children.

He made the disclosure when he appeared on Thursday evening Channels television Magazine programme, tagged “Politics Today”.

Senator Ndume’s commended President Bola Tinubu recall of 11,566 policemen attached to prominent Nigerians and for redirecting them to enhance security manpower in response to escalating nationwide threats—including kidnapping spikes in Kwara, Kebbi, Niger and other parts of the North.

According to him”, This is one of the commendable things that Mr President did and it should be implemented effectively.
“We should see it on the ground. I thought today (Thursday) that I will not see any police at the National Assembly”.

“But, there are still crowded police at the National Assembly. So, I do not know what the Inspector-General police is talking about”, Senator Ndume said.

Asked if police personnel at the National Assembly and legislators should be withdrawn in line with President Bola Tinubu’s directive, Senator Ndume responded in the affirmative, saying, “Everybody”.

According to the Senator, “If you secure Abuja, why do you need police attached to personalities. I don’t have a police. I only had orderly assigned to monitor me”.

“You know my issue after that Boko Haram saga. It was said then that I am not only politically exposed person, but my life then was at risk. So, I was attached three policemen.

“But that was unimaginable. So, I refused the offer and I insisted that if there is going to be any attachment of police to me, it should be an orderly. Do you know why? Because I am an accused person.

“So, I need police to monitor me for them not to say I have gone to somewhere or I had a meeting with. So, I need that plain clothes policeman by me so as the Government will now testify regarding my movement, who I relate to, not to protect me.

“You can’t imagine what is happening. Some of our colleagues, some Ministers have police orderlies attached to their wives and children.
So, what is their business with that?

“I saw somebody I do not want to mention his name. One of those politically exposed persons, his own son that is matured, is moving with a convoy.

“He has DSS, police and others attached to his convoy. No! This is wrong. This is more than abuse of office. It’s an insult of office.

“I went to one of my colleagues house after dinner, I saw more than 10 police personnel in us house. This my colleague is even my junior at the National Assembly.

“When you see some members of the national Assembly coming with their convoys, you will pull back thinking that it’s the President ot the Vice President that is coming.

“You can see even the President of Nigeria, the convoy that he goes about with is too much too. Secure the place. So, when the President goes, you (security agents) withdraw.

“Secure Abuja, and then the President can even drive out himself. But when you secure personalities, and this is what is happening in Nigeria. And then, other people as we call them become vulnerable. And we do not care. So if you secure Abuja, then you can drive at night”, according to him.
