The Kwara State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of some elderly Fulani leaders, including the President of Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN), Kwara State chapter, over alleged involvement in kidnapping and the sponsorship of armed bandit groups.
According to security reports made available by the Command, the suspects, most of whom are above 60 years of age, were arrested following intelligence-led investigations linking them to several kidnapping operations within the state and neighbouring areas.
Police sources disclosed that during preliminary investigations, the MACBAN leader reportedly made confessional statements indicating his alleged role in providing support and coordination for kidnapping activities carried out by Fulani bandit groups.
The Command described the development as troubling, noting that individuals expected to serve as voices of peace and leadership within their communities are now facing serious allegations connected to violent crimes.
The police, however, emphasized that the arrests target specific individuals and should not be interpreted as an indictment of the Fulani community or any ethnic group.
The Kwara State Police Command assured the public that investigations are ongoing and that all suspects will be prosecuted in accordance with the law upon the conclusion of investigations.
