Detectives from the Bauchi State Criminal Investigation Department of the Nigeria police have arrested twenty-four-year-old Jafar Mohammed of Zango Ward over the alleged abduction and rape of a sixteen-year-old girl.
The investigation began after the victim’s elder sister reported her missing, leading operatives to track the teenager’s phone to Abuja before eventually apprehending the suspect in the Hayin Rigasa area of Kaduna State.
According to the police spokesman, SP Nafiu Habib, the victim revealed upon her return home that the suspect deceitfully lured her away and sexually assaulted her under the pretext of marriage.
The suspect has since confessed to the crime during interrogation and remains in custody as the case undergoes further investigation at the SCID Gender Laboratory.
Reacting to the incident, the Bauchi State Commissioner of Police, CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu, reiterated the command’s zero-tolerance policy for gender-based violence and crimes against minors.
Assuring the public that justice will be served, the Commissioner issued a strong call to parents and guardians to closely monitor their children and stay vigilant against deceitful tactics used by predators.
