Minister tags hunger ‘protests madness’, apologizes

The Minister of State Steel Development, Uba Maigari Ahmadu who dubbed the nationwide #EndBadGovernance in Nigeria ― “protests madness” on a Satellite television, has apologized to Nigerians.

The Minister made the scathy remarks when he appeared on Channels Television programme on Monday morning.

Minister, said, “I am sure you know that Taraba is one of the States that did not participate in this madness called protests.

“We agreed that Citizens have the rights to protest; Just as the federal government and the State have the right to protect lives and property of those who do not support the protest. So, it was.a balanced relationship”.

But when the Minister’s attention was drawn to the flu dance sleep, he immediately tendered an unreserved apology after his interviewee drew his attention to the blunder.

Mr Ahmadu said, “No! I didn’t refer to the protesters as mad people or madness. No! Don’t quote me out of words.

“I meant those who participated in violence and destroyed property. Those who went to steal, break into people’s homes and businesses as well as Government premises.

“These protests called madness, I take that back if it was not understood in that perspective”, the Minister pleaded.

TheNewspad recalls President Bola Tinubu on Sunday pleaded with Nigerians to end the ongoing#EndBadGovernance in Nigeria “protests, which began on Thursday August 1st over the worsening food crisis and hardship.

He reeled out measures his administration has taken since the past one year in office towards reducing hunger and improving on livelihoods of Nigerians, including protesters who have among others, sought the return of fuel subsidy regime.
