Man commits suicide over pressure to get married

A Uber driver Muftau Abiodun Musa, who slipped into depression over pressure from family members to get married at age 46, has reportedly killed himself in Osogbo, Osun State Capital, South West.

TheNewspad reports that the tragedy struck after two failed attempts by the driver to take his own life previously due to his inability to pay his rent.

Depression was said to have set in shortly after his close friend who temporarily offered him a shelter was evicted from his apartment by the property owner to pave the way for his house renovation.

The deceased, according to the Leadershiponline, left a note nobody should cry over his demise, directing whosoever found his remains to check further details as indicated on his phone.

The unmarried and childless Musa, started battling depression for the past five years, according to a source, urged his family to be contacted.

The Newspaper recalled that in December 2023, Musa attempted to hang himself but was stopped by his neighbours, prompting Musa family to rehabilitate him before he finally lost his life battle.

Besides, Musa according to the source had also made another attempt by drinking insecticide and pesticide, which led to his admittance in hospital for two months.

“The house rent expired in December, but he was given until the end of January to vacate, as the house owner wanted to renovate the house.

“The person who sublet the house told him three days ago to find another house, as the owner had told them to leave. He became depressed and hanged himself”, according to the source.

A top police officer attached to the Nigeria Police Command in Osun State, hinted that Homicide section of the Command has taken over the investigation.
