Iran has secretly executed a man convicted of collaborating with Israeli intelligence and providing critical data regarding the Country’s military infrastructure.
Judicial authorities announced the development on Saturday, shedding light on a previously unreported espionage case, according to AFP.
The executed individual, identified as Hossein Pedaran, was accused of supplying Israel’s Mossad agency with sensitive information concerning missile sites located in the central province of Isfahan.
Officials did not disclose the specific dates of his arrest or trial.
The judiciary, Pedaran faced formal charges of espionage and intelligence collaboration, according to the report.
His death sentence was subsequently reviewed and upheld by the Country’s supreme court before being carried out.
“The death penalty was carried out against Hossein Pedaran, who had provided the Mossad with information on missile sites in Isfahan province” in central Iran, judicial authorities said, without saying when he was arrested or put on trial.
Pedaran had faced accusations of “espionage and intelligence collaboration” in favour of Israel.
This execution comes amid a broader escalation of arrests and capital punishments by Iranian authorities.
These judicial actions have run parallel to the ongoing Middle East conflict that began in February, as well as nationwide protests that peaked in January.
Isfahan province, which hosts vital Iranian nuclear facilities, has suffered severe impacts throughout the war, with numerous missile and military sites targeted by airstrikes.
Supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei was also killed at the onset of the conflict.
The case follows a similar announcement in August, when the judiciary executed two men accused of transmitting the coordinates of sensitive military and security sites to Israel.
According to international rights groups, Iran currently maintains the second-highest rate of executions globally, trailing only China.
